Color Opinions?

I'm trying to decide on a color for Henry's new saddle.  I was totally dead set on top right for a long time (for resale and ease of finding other matching equipment).  But then I saw Coach D's new horse wearing a reddish brown saddle, similar to the bottom left.... and it looked amazing.  Coach D's new horse is almost exactly the same color as Henry.

I'm curious to see the actual leather swatches on him too (which I will be doing at my appt on Jan 18).

Thoughts?  :)

  1. I like the top right for the same reasons as you! easy to match and easy to sell!

    1. Yeah it seems like the practical choice! Curious to see the actual swatch on him :)

  2. I'd put a dab of conditioner on the swatches too - will they darken up a ton? Blood bay looks good in everything :D

    1. That's a good idea! Henry's color seems to go nicely with everything for sure.... :D so many choices!!

  3. One of my horses is the same sort of rich blood bay and i was surprised by how amazing black looked on her. I also really like the top left colour.

    1. He will have a black dressage saddle for sure, not sure I'm up for a black jumping saddle (just for the re-sale part). Yeah top left might be nice on him too! :)

  4. I am so bad at this. But, I do like the top two best.

  6. Top right! Top left is apparently really easy to match as well though, B is the color bay that looks terrible with reddish tinged leather, and somehow I end up with all sorts of it! Off the top of my head, Greenhawk's Mondega 'oakbark' line, Pessoa, some HDR, and Stubben's havana colors all match the top left reddish brown.

    2. Oh interesting, well that's good to know! I was worried that if I liked it on him it would be hard to find a matching bridle/girth. Curious to see how the actual swatch looks on him (because that reddish saddle on Coach D's horse looked fabulous)!

  8. I like the bottom left followed by the top right the best. But it can be a pain trying to match all the million shades of brown there are.

    1. Yeah I really want his stuff to match, but apparently there is more reddish brown stuff out there than I thought!

  9. I like the top two also. The one on the left may darken over time with cleaning and oiling. I've had saddles start out that color and wind up being brown over the years.

    1. That's very true, I have to keep to keep in mind that they won't stay exactly the same color forever. :)

  10. Top right all the way. I'm more of a rich brown leather kind of gal though.

  11. I like the top right but probably because that's the color of my saddle. I did read somewhere (can't remember) that black is an up and coming color for jumping saddles/tack. I think you'll know once you see them on him/near him. Have fun!

    1. I actually think Henry would look great in black! I had a black jump saddle once that was really hard to sell and that makes me a bit nervous :(

  12. Carlos was a Deep red Bay and my saddle is also super red. Looked pretty good on him.
