Mystic turned 6 on Saturday! Where has the time gone?!
We celebrated with a ride around the hay field with my dog. We rode up to the very edge of the field (which is right next to the Transcanada Highway). I just kind of sat there for a minute and let this wave of appreciation wash over me. I don’t know if I have the words to express how grateful I am for her.
From the moment she hopped off the trailer in January 2013 I was her person. I’ve never had such an immediate connection with a horse before. We just get each other.
We’ve had some really special moments over the past 5 and half years and our ride on Saturday was another great one. I don’t know a lot of horses quiet enough to be ridden bareback along a major highway on a long rein. She was also very patient with me as I was very slow and hobbly on Saturday after an unfortunate foot squashing injury earlier in the week (Henry spooked when I was leading him and landed on my right foot - ouch).
On one of our first solo trail rides a few years ago she really stepped up for me when I was falling apart. My husband had recently been laid off and I was incredibly stressed out, to the point of having tears welling up in my eyes the whole time I was at the barn. It was a bad idea to ride but for some reason I just needed to go walk around in the field with Mystic and my dog. Instead of a quiet walk we did W/T/C that day and I had so much fun. For a few hours the weight was lifted and I was flying around the hayfield on the best pony ever.
I am so lucky to be her person and am excited to celebrate many more birthdays together :)
